Deborah Kraft (b. 1988, Davenport, IA) is a painter, sculptor, and mixed media artist living and working in Chicago, IL. As the granddaughter of a self-styled prophet and inventor, she explores the specimen, the object and the collection through the lens of magic. Her "cathected" objects - items into which have been invested special emotional and mental energy - are composed in minute scale and collected together. Some of these objects are then plucked from the collection to be magnified into oil large paintings. Decorative, sculptural or biomorphic forms are reduced back to surface in these large-scale works.
