Kirsten Johnson

Hi, my name is Kirsten Johnson. I am an artist originally from New Orleans. I currently live in rural Illinois. Since moving to the big city, I’ve found time to commit more and more to my craft. I feel like painting allows me to be an illustrator without a book. I think my style is that of a folk artist. I am not professionally trained. I try to paint a cartoon version of my thoughts. When my son was around 4 years old, he would draw random images on paper. I felt like I knew what he was drawing so I painted these images. We entered these pieces along with new pieces to our first art show. We sold every piece except for one. That was a moment that made me think maybe I can make a living as an artist. It gave me the confidence to start painting more.
