Susmita Kumar is a Rock Island County based Indian Folk Artist. She works on hand-made paper with acrylic paint, plant based dyes and nib pen. Madhubani Art is a style of Indian painting practiced in the Mithila region of the Indian subcontinent. In the past, this style of painting was done using different everyday materials: twigs, matchsticks, and/or fingers. Natural dyes and pigments were used on the walls to decorate houses. Nowadays, it’s done with nib-pens, brushes, and different paints. Madhubani art can be done on paper, canvases, or fabric. Madhubani paintings are characterized by figures that are prominently outlined, like bulging fish-like eyes and pointed noses. The themes of Madhubani paintings usually include natural elements like animals, the sun, the moon, bamboo trees, flowers, and more.

Susmita is based out of Rock Island County.
