After seeing a ‘handmade’ glass bead in a Chicago bead store 20 years ago, I was intrigued by how someone could create a glass bead. Having never seen the hot glass-making process before, I began a process of trial and error to teach myself lampwork glassmaking from a beginner kit and a book. Although my progress was slow and painful, I fell in love with melting glass rods in a torch and mixing colors to see what magical combinations would occur. I began experimenting with making tiny blown glass bubbles, and now make necklaces and bracelet charms and ornaments filled with tiny treasures such as sea glass, beach sand, gemstones, dried grasses and flowers and birthstone crystals. I’ve expanded to include decorative plant sticks, glaskolben blown ornaments, tiny flower vases, bracelets, earrings and more. I create my pieces in a little log cabin studio which is my storefront and classroom and is open by appointment at 2081 State Hwy 94, Oquawka IL.
