Jane Shank

Jane Elizabeth lives in Wayland, Iowa. Jane sold her first drawing (a robin in a nest) to a neighboring lady at the age of 6. Jane remembers, "I wanted a quarter for it, and she negotiated me down to a dime." But this didn't deter her from keeping at it. She credits her teachers, "I was blessed with some wonderful art teachers in my early years and received a lot of encouragement from them to keep learning." In high school, she was paid an "A" in biology for a mural in the science lab. After community college, she married and began a family in Washington, IA. In 1998, Jane's desire to paint ignited. Jane began taking workshops and studied china painting, oil painting, and graphic design while owning and operating a retail business until 2008. She began working as a graphic designer on the side. Then, in 2015, she devoted a few years to opening a gallery. Through the gallery experience, she learned much more about what it meant to be a professional artist and gained many artist friends in Southeast Iowa. In April 2019, with much encouragement from her husband and family, Jane began painting full-time. She is diligently creating a body of work that is fun to look at individually and as an exhibit. Jane has been blessed to be a student of artist David Garrison, PSA from Burlington, IA. His work is collected by art lovers worldwide. Jane Elizabeth's paintings depict landscape views of Lake Superior, Madeline Island, France, the Midwest landscape, and other genres in pastel and oil. She constantly expands in new directions and with different mediums to find new ways for her patrons to enjoy her work.

Jane is based out of Iowa County.
