Subject Matter:
Marty is an accomplished artist on many levels – musician, lyricist, composer, and writer as well as through the visual arts. In that final category, he has honed his skills over several decades in acrylic, watercolor, graphite, pen and ink, and scratch art. Scratch art may be new to some and to my knowledge only created by Marty which makes them literally one of a kind. He happened on the concept while working late nights for a Chicago publisher some three plus decades ago. He employs an X-Acto knife to painstakingly carve an image into this new medium – exposed film. The result is distinctive. It can be mounted, filled with theatre gels (or not), but in any case, the visual will change with different lighting. It is not unlike stained glass. His themes lean towards people, landscapes, animals, and more traditional Western art. And each McCormack tells a tale and arrives with at least a few lines of narrative since he is, after all, a storyteller.
Martin is based out of Cook County.
